For decades, the automotive industry has been one of Germany's driving forces and is now an exciting example of digital shopping in a very specific context. E-commerce elements are becoming increasingly relevant in both B2B and B2C, whether for the vehicle purchase itself or for after-sales services within the vehicle. In today's issue, together with our colleagues from Spark Reply, we show how digital strategies are already shaping the vehicle sales of tomorrow. Comsysto Reply has been implementing complex e-commerce solutions for clients across all industries for over 15 years. At the same time, we track and analyze relevant trends in our e-commerce lab to ensure we are ready for the challenges of tomorrow. We share our insights here – every Tuesday!
In one of our largest ongoing projects, we are developing the "Used Car Platform" for AUDI AG , where partners and dealers can purchase vehicles in large quantities via both auctions and direct sales (full reference). This is a classic B2B e-commerce use case: efficiency and transparency are the priorities, while emotions play only a minor role in the purchasing decision. It is a completely different story in B2C: for consumers, purchasing a new vehicle is often one of the biggest buying decisions of their lives. Here, it is all about seamless online experiences, smart configuration tools, and data-driven personalization. All with the goal of making buying a car more intuitive, efficient, and emotional than ever before.

Guided Shopping: When buying a car becomes as easy as streaming
The need for simplicity defines the behavior of new target groups. Young first-time buyers want clarity, comfort, and security – without having to click through countless options. This is where "guided configuration" comes into play: an AI-supported configurator that recognizes individual needs, suggests suitable models, and provides real-time visual feedback. For example, if you specify "space for skis," you receive suggestions including storage visualization and relevant equipment. This makes buying a car intuitive, personal, and efficient – even without prior knowledge.

Multiplayer configuration: Turning the vehicle purchase into a team experience
Decisions today are often made collectively – for example, by couples or families. The new multiplayer configuration allows several people to configure a vehicle together simultaneously and from any location. Through synchronized sessions, decisions become transparent, interactive, and entertaining. This offers new potential, especially for families: from the question of trunk size to the choice of child-friendly features – everything is combined in one digital experience.

Social commerce and influencer bundles: Configurations with cult status
For passionate car fans, it is about more than just transportation – it is about lifestyle. Those looking for inspiration can select pre-configured influencer vehicles directly and customize them with just a few clicks. During configuration, progress can be shared directly on social media – including high-quality visuals and shareables for Instagram or TikTok. The path from a reel to a real vehicle has never been shorter.

Why this is crucial now
Expectations for digital touchpoints are higher than ever. Whether it’s transparent pricing, quick test drive bookings, or live support via conversational AI, customers expect digital services that don’t just work, but delight. Those who fail to meet these demands risk losing direct access to their customers. At the same time, digital sales experiences create clear added value: they reduce complexity, increase conversion rates, and strengthen long-term brand loyalty—from the initial contact to post-purchase community events.

That’s it for today—here’s what’s coming up next
Whether it’s an AI-driven product advisor, interactive family configuration, or influencer sharing: buying a vehicle digitally is becoming an experience that is not only efficient but emotionally compelling. Companies that invest in well-thought-out e-commerce strategies now are laying the foundation for sustainable growth in the mobility market of tomorrow.
